Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Departments Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred at the intersection of Division Avenue and Ames Street, NE.
On Saturday, August 4, 2012 at approximately 1:35 am, a silver 2003 Hyundai was observed traveling south bound in the 100 block of Division Avenue NE. At the intersection of Division Avenue and Ames Street NE, the vehicle veered off the roadway and struck a wooden light pole located on the southwest corner of the intersection. As a result of the impact with the pole, the vehicle rotated and struck a brick retaining wall. The front seat passenger, an adult female, sustained blunt impact trauma to the body. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded and did not find any signs of life for the passenger who was pronounced dead by a member of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. DC Fire and Emergency personnel transported the driver, also an adult female, to a local hospital where she is currently in critical condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
