Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating the circumstances of a vehicular crash that has resulted in a fatality. The crash occurred in the 5200 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>First Street, NE, on June 1, 2010.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
On Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at approximately 6:12 pm, a black 2001 Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the 5200 block of First Street, N.E. The vehicle veered off the roadway, mounted a curb and collided with a tree on the west side of the street. The three occupants were transported to various area hospitals in stable condition.
One of the passengers, identified as 99-year-old, Ms. Rebecca Britt of the 700 block of Oneida Place, NW, was admitted to the hospital in stable condition, but later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at 10:55 pm.
The operator of the Toyota Camry and second passenger were admitted and later released from an area hospital.
The investigation is still ongoing.
