Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Unit are investigating a traffic fatality which occurred on the 1000 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast.
On Saturday, March 22, 2014, at approximately 4:54 pm, a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling southbound on the northbound access road of Kenilworth Avenue, NE. In the 1300 block of Kenilworth Avenue, NE it struck a 2006 Chevrolet Envoy which was traveling northbound. The 1997 Tahoe continued to travel southbound and in the 1000 block of Kenilworth Avenue it struck a 2006 GMC Acadia that was traveling northbound. The impact caused the GMC Acadia to be pushed backwards and strike two parked vehicles, a 2005 Sterling flatbed tow truck and a 2009 Ford tow truck. The 1997 Tahoe continued to travel south and struck a concrete retaining wall. The driver and passenger of the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe were transported to a local Hospital where driver was subsequently pronounced dead and the passenger was admitted in serious condition. The driver of the GMC Acadia was pronounced dead on the scene and transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The decedent that was driving the 2006 GMC Acadia has been identified as 50 year-old Edgar Garcia of Odenton, Maryland.
The decedent that was driving the 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe has been identified as 35 year-old Brian Duncan of Mount Ranier, Maryland.
This crash is currently under investigation.
