Scheduled Street Closures for:Beat the Deadline 5k, The Nation's Triathlon, and Adams Morgan Day Festival

The Metropolitan Police Department and the Department of Transportation would like to inform the public of street closures for the Beat the Deadline 5K on Saturday, September 7, 2013 and the Nation’s Triathlon and the Adams Morgan Day Festival scheduled for Sunday, September 8, 2013. 

Beat the Deadline 5K

Beat the Deadline 5K benefits the ongoing work of the National Press Club’s Journalism Institute. The Institute is committed to helping working journalists improve their skills through ongoing training and scholarships.

The race start time will be from 7:30 am to 9:30 am, at which time the roadways mentioned below will be closed to traffic.

  • Streets intersecting Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed from 14th street to 3rd  Street, NW
  • Streets intersecting Constitution Avenue from 3rd Street, NW to 1st Street, NE

The route is as follows:

 

  • Starting at 1300 block of F Street, NW
  • Proceed east on F Street, NW
  • South on 13th Street, NW
  • East on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
  • East on Constitution Avenue, NW
  • Northeast on Louisiana Avenue, NW
  • Continue east on D Street, NW
  • U-turn at 1st and D Street, NE (USCP Territory)
  • Westbound back onto D Street, NE/NW
  • Southwest on Louisiana Avenue, NW
  • West on Constitution Avenue, NW
  • West on Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
  • North on 13th Street, NW
  • End at the finish line

All street closures and listed times are subject to change based upon prevailing or unexpected conditions.

 Nation’s Triathlon 2013

The 8th Annual Events DC Nation’s Triathlon to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will take place Sunday, September 8, 2013 in the nation’s capital, Washington, DC.

The following streets will be closed from 5:30 am to 1:00 pm:

•         14th Street bridge HOV outbound lanes will be closed to traffic. 

 

Bike Route:

           

Start:  Independence Avenue at West Basin Drive SW

  • Turn right onto 14th St SW
  • Merge left onto 395 HOV lanes (southbound only)
  • U-turn on 395 HOV lanes near South fern Street
  • Merge onto 14th Street, SW
  • Turn left onto Independence Avenue, SW
  • Merge onto Ohio Drive, SW
  • Merge right onto Potomac Freeway
  • Merge right toward E Street/E Street Expressway
  • Turn left onto 20th Street, NW
  • Turn left onto E Street, NW
  • Merge right onto Potomac Freeway
  • Merge right onto Whitehurst Freeway
  • U-turn on Whitehurst near M Street, NW
  • Merge right onto Potomac Freeway
  • Turn right onto Rock Creek Parkway
  • U-turn at Rock Creek and F Street, NW
  • Merge right onto Ohio Drive, SW
  • Merge onto Independence

 

Finish:  (begin 2nd loop) at Independence Ave (east of Ericsson Circle)

Run Route:

START: Independence Avenue, SW and West Basin Drive, SW (curb lane)

  • Bear right on Maine Avenue, SW
  • Turn left on 15th Street, SW
  • Turnaround on 15th Street, SW
  • Turn left on Maine Avenue, SW
  • Turn right on Ohio Drive, SW
  • Turn right on East Basin Drive, SW
  • Turnaround at East Basin and Ohio Drive, SW
  • Turn right on Ohio Drive, SW

 

FINISH: Ohio Drive and West Basin Drive, SW

*Below is a list of closed streets as well as alternate routes that can be used during the event:

  • Ramp for Westbound 395 toward Maine, Avenue will be closed to traffic

     (Alternate routes will be 14th Street Bridge, 9th Street Tunnel and 12th Street Tunnel)

 

  • Potomac River Freeway will be closed to traffic.

(Alternate routes will be 23rd Street, NW, Constitution Avenue, NW and Virginia Avenue,     NW)

**East and westbound M Street, NW and south Wisconsin Avenue, NW, will remain open to traffic during the event.  Whitehurst Freeway will not open inbound or outbound from 5:30 to approximately 1:00 pm. **

Adams Morgan Day Festival

On Sunday, September 8, 2013, the Adams Morgan Day Festival will take place in the District of Columbia.  In conjunction with this event, there will be several street closures that motorists should take into consideration:

 

The following streets will be closed from 4:00 am to 10:00 pm:

 

  • 18th Street, NW between Florida Avenue and Columbia Road, NW
  • 1800 block of Belmont Road, NW, Wyoming Avenue, NW, and Vernon Street, NW
  • 1700 block of Euclid Street, NW by Unity Park
  • Kalorama Road, NW will be closed from Columbia Road, NW past 18th Street, NW to the business alley in the 1700 block
  • California Street, NW will be closed from Florida Avenue, NW to 19th Street, NW 

 

Motorists traveling in the area of this event may experience delays and should consider alternative routes if possible. The Metropolitan Police Department and the District Department of Transportation would like to remind motorists to pay full attention whenever operating any motor vehicle and to be mindful of heavy pedestrian traffic that may be associated with special events.  These street closings are subject to change without notice based upon unanticipated events and prevailing conditions.
