The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a police involved shooting which occurred in the 6400 block of 13th Street, NW.
Preliminary investigation reveals that at approximately 11:17 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, personnel from the Fourth District responded to the 6400 block of 13th Street, NW for the report of a stalking. While investigating the complaint, the suspect charged one of the uniformed police officers and stabbed him in the back. The officer’s partner discharged his service weapon and struck the suspect. The suspect was placed under arrest without further incident. The police officer involved was transported to a local hospital where he was subsequently treated and released for his wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the suspect to a local hospital. The suspect was admitted in stable condition.
The suspect has been identified as 46 year-old David Valentine Young of Northwest, Washington, DC. He has been charged with Burglary One, Assault on a Police Officer (Felony) and Criminal Contempt of Court.
The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division in conjunction with the Fourth District Detectives Unit is conducting the investigation.
