Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding a traffic crash that resulted in the death of a pedestrian, which occurred at <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?><?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = U1 /?>Wisconsin Avenue and M Street, NW on the night of March 30, 2010.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
On Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at approximately 9:30 pm, a black 2000 Volkswagen Passat Station Wagon was traveling northbound on Wisconsin Avenue NW. At the intersection of Wisconsin Avenue and M Street NW, the operator of the Passat attempted to execute a left turn onto westbound M Street NW and collided with a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported by DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel to GeorgeWashingtonUniversityMedicalCenter where he was admitted in grave condition. Subsequently, he was transferred to the WashingtonHospitalCenter where he was admitted for treatment. The pedestrian, who has been identified as 59-year-old Damon Pearson of no fixed address, was pronounced dead at 2:50 pm on the afternoon of Saturday, April 3, 2010.
The driver of the Volkswagen was not physically injured.
