MPD Officer Involved Shooting: 2300 Block of Chester Street, Southeast

Agents from the Force Investigation Team of the Metropolitan Police Department’s (MPD) Internal Affairs Bureau are investigating a MPD officer involved shooting that occurred on Saturday, November 27, 2021, in the 2300 block of Chester Street, Southeast.

 

At approximately 1:45 am, uniformed members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the reports of an aggravated assault and sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located a suspect, armed with a rifle, approaching a parked vehicle. One of the officers voiced numerous commands for the suspect to drop the firearm and the suspect did not comply. The officer discharged his service weapon and the suspect dropped the firearm. The suspect was not struck by gunfire. The suspect then entered a vehicle and fled the scene. Members located and recovered the vehicle after it was involved in a collision in the 1700 block of W Street, Southeast. A second firearm, believed to be discarded by the suspect, was recovered nearby. The suspect was later apprehended by Sixth District officers. The officers on scene did not sustain any injuries.

On Saturday, November 27, 2021, 49 year-old Donald Willis, Jr., of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun), Possession of Unregistered Ammunition, Possession of an Unregistered Firearm, Carrying a Pistol Without a License, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Felon in Possession, and Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm.

 

The MPD member involved has been placed on administrative leave, pursuant to MPD policy. Body worn camera footage from this incident is currently under review.
