Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Second District announced a man has been arrested for a stabbing inside a business in the 1200 block of New York Avenue, Northwest.

On Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at approximately 6:15 p.m., the victims were inside an establishment at the listed location, ordering food. The suspect displayed a knife, threatened one of the victims, and made derogatory comments towards the victims based on their race. The other victim tried to intervene and was stabbed by the suspect. The suspect was apprehended by responding officers.

63-year-old Reginald Pickett, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Knife).

The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating this offense as being motivated by hate or bias. The designation can be changed at any point as an investigation proceeds and more information is gathered. A designation as a hate crime by MPD does not mean that prosecutors will prosecute it as a hate crime. The Special Liaison Branch is assisting with this investigation.
