Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, December 31, 2009. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
At approximately 11:25 pm on Thursday, December 31, 2009, a member from the Fourth District was flagged down by personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department in the 4800 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>North Capitol Street, NE to investigate the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, an adult male was discovered at that location suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Personnel from the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department could find no signs consistent with life.
The victim was subsequently pronounced dead on the scene at approximately 1:30 am on January 1, 2010 by a representative from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia. The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time pending next of kin notification.

The Metropolitan Police Department is currently offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
