At approximately 3:30 pm, on Sunday, April 2, 2006, Metropolitan Police were called to the 4500 block of Quarles Street, NE, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival officers located 18-year-old Bernard Derrick Offutt, address unknown, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the chest. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene, and found the victim in an unconscious state. He was subsequently transported to Prince George's Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead at 4:25 pm.
The case is under investigation by members of the MPDC's Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>District of Columbia.
