Homicide at 2301 11th Street, NW

At approximately 9:57 last night, Sunday, June 18, 2006, DC Fire Department emergency medical personnel and police were called to an apartment building located at 2301 11th Street, NW, to investigate the report of an unconscious infant. Upon arrival officers located 5-month-old Demarcus Simmons, of the 200 block of Red Jade Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in an unconscious condition.  He was taken to Children's Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:25 pm.

Today the Office of the DC Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide due to blunt impact to the head.

The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch's Special Victims Unit.  Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.

The department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
