Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide which occurred in the 1900 block of Fenwick Street, Northeast.
On Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at approximately 2:42 am, police officers from the Fifth Patrol District responded to a call for service to assist DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services in the 1900 block of Fenwick Street, Northeast. Upon their arrival, they located an adult male lying on the sidewalk, unconscious and unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel did not find any signs consistent with life. The decedent was subsequently transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia, where an autopsy was performed. The cause of death was established to be a gunshot wound. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. The investigation is continuing.
The decedent is identified as 33-year-old Rashard Raigns of no fixed address.
