On Friday, May 5, 2006, at approximately 12:15 pm, a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier, which apparently was traveling at a higher-than-normal rate of speed, hit a wall at the bottom of a ramp inside of a parking garage located at 625 Indiana Avenue, NW. Consequently, the operator and his passenger sustained massive trauma. Neither was wearing a safety belt.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported the victims to George Washington Hospital Center, where they were pronounced dead. The passenger has been identified as 80-year-old Catherine Patrick, of the 4200 block of Hildreth Street, SE. The operator was 92 years old and resided in Southeast DC. His name is being withheld, pending notification of his next-of-kin.
Investigators assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department?s Major Crash Unit are conducting the investigation into the circumstances of the accident. However, it appears the operator of the vehicle may have suffered some kind of medical emergency that resulted in the accident.
