Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal stabbing committed in the 5300 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>Ames Street, NE on October 23, 2009. A suspect has been arrested.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
On Friday, October 23, 2009, at approximately 11:50 pm, officers assigned to the Sixth District responded to the 5300 block of Ames Street, NE to investigate the report of a stabbing. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from stab wounds to the chest. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel then responded to the scene.
The victim, who has not yet been positively identified, was transported to the WashingtonHospitalCenter’s MedSTAR Unit where he was pronounced dead.
Based upon information developed during the course of the investigation, a suspect was identified and located. The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Robert Saunders of no fixed address, was transported to the Homicide Branch where was placed under arrest and charged with Murder II While Armed.
