Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred on <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?>49th Place, SE on the morning of April 10, 2010.
On Saturday, April 10, 2010, at approximately 2:20 am, officers assigned to the Sixth District responded to the 600 block of 49th Place, SE to investigate the sounds of gunfire detected by ShotSpotter* technology. Upon arrival, they located a male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds lying on the sidewalk. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department personnel were summoned to the scene, but they found no signs of life. The body of the victim, identified as 27-year-old Melvin White of no fixed address, later was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for the District of Columbia.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
