At approximately 11:32 pm, on Friday, December 9, 2005, two men entered the 1300 block of Columbia Road, NW. It was at this time that at least one of the men reportedly produced a handgun and began shooting. As a result, five men received gunshot wounds before the suspects fled the scene. One of the victims, identified as 24-year-old Anthony Blount, of the 100 block of Florida Avenue, NW, received apparent gunshot wounds to the head. He was taken to the Washington Hospital Center's MedStar Unit and pronounced dead. A second victim, identified as 21-year-old Joshua Gregory of the 1200 block of Simms Place, NE, received apparent multiple gunshot wounds to the body. He was taken to the Howard University Hospital and pronounced dead.

Three additional victims were also apparently shot. One victim, a 22-year-old male, was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. Another 21-year-old male was found suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the body, and a 24-year-old male was found suffering from an apparent graze wound to the hand. All three victims were transported to area hospitals with reported non-life threatening injuries. Their names are being withheld at this time because they are considered witnesses in the above case.
The case is under investigation by members of the department's Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.
The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Therefore the reward in the above case would be up to $50,000.
The above case was closed on tuesday, July 3, 2007, with the arrest of 32-year-old Azariah Israel, of the 300 block of Atlantic Street, SE. He was charged with two counts of Murder One while Armed, one count of Assault With Intent to Kill While Armed, and one count of Aggravated Assault While Armed.
