Detectives with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Criminal Apprehension Unit announce an arrest has been made in a fatal traffic crash that occurred on Thursday, August 30, 2018, in the 1600 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast.
The preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 3:45 pm, the operator of a dark-colored vehicle was traveling westbound on Eastern Avenue, Northeast, approaching Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast. The vehicle made a left turn onto the 1600 block of Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast, striking two pedestrians in the crosswalk area. The vehicle was last seen traveling southbound in the 1600 block Kenilworth Avenue, Northeast. DC Fire and EMS transported both victims to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, one victim was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle did not remain on scene.
The decedent has been identified as 51-year-old Sherron Pressley, of Northeast, DC.
On Tuesday, January 29, 2019, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 20-year-old Markel Ford, of Northeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Involuntary Manslaughter.
