Arrest Made in Connection with Infant Death on 11th Street, NW

At approximately 9:57 last night, Sunday, June 18, 2006, DC Fire Department emergency medical personnel and police were called to an apartment building located at 2301 11th Street, NW, to investigate the report of an unconscious infant. Upon arrival officers located 5-month-old Demarcus Simmons, of the 200 block of Red Jade Drive in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, in an unconscious condition.  He was taken to Children's Hospital and pronounced dead at 10:25 pm.

On June 19, 2006,  the Office of the DC Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide due to blunt impact to the head.

This case was closed on the evening of Tuesday, June 20, 2006, with the arrest of 60-year-old Shirley Wilson, of the 11th Street address. Wilson was taken into cstody at about 5:30 pm at her home address, without incident, pursuant to a DC Superior Court warrant charging her with Felony Murder. She was processed at the Special Victims Unit, located at 300 Indiana Avenue, NW, and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow in DC Superior Court.
