Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch have announced that an arrest has been made in the homicide of Chicquelo Abney, who was shot to death in the 1400 block of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /?><?XML:NAMESPACE PREFIX = U1 /?>First Street, SW on October 12, 2009. On Thursday, October 22, 2009, at approximately 7pm, 20-year-old Curtis Waldron of Southeast was arrested and charged with First Degree Murder While Armed and Assault With Intent to Kill in connection with the death of Chicquelo Abney and the shooting of a second victim. Mr. Waldron was apprehended, without incident, in the 500 block of Indiana Avenue, NW by members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and then was transported to the department’s Homicide Branch for processing. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /?>
On Monday, October 12, 2009, at approximately 1:30 pm, members of the First District responded to the 1300 block of First Street, SW for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital where 18-year-old Chicquelo Abney of Southwest, Washington, DC was pronounced dead and the second victim was admitted for treatment. The identity of the surviving victim is being withheld because he is considered a witness in this case.
