Arrest Made in Armed Robberies of Three Establishments

The Metropolitan Police Department has announced that an arrest has been made in connection to three robberies of establishments that occurred on July15, 2014, July 25, 2014 and July 30, 2014.

On Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at approximately 8:55 pm, police officers from the Fifth District responded to a call for an armed robbery at a restaurant in the 1500 block of Benning Road, Northeast. Upon their arrival, an employee indicated that an adult male had entered the establishment, brandished a weapon, assaulted the employee, and demanded cash.  The employee complied with the demands and the suspect obtained US currency before fleeing the location.

On Friday, July 25, 2014 at approximately 10:50 pm, police officers from the Fifth District responded to a call for an armed robbery at a supermarket located in the 1600 block of Maryland Ave, Northeast.  Upon their arrival, an employee indicated that an adult male approached several store employees, brandished a weapon and demanded cash.  The suspect obtained US currency before fleeing the location.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at approximately 10:50 pm, police officers from the First District responded to a call for an armed robbery at a supermarket located in the 400 block of M Street, Southwest. Upon their arrival, an employee indicated that an adult male had entered the establishment, brandished a weapon, assaulted the employee, and demanded cash.  The employee complied with the demands and the suspect obtained US currency before fleeing the location.

Shortly after the robbery, vice officers from the First District observed the suspect and following a foot pursuit they apprehended the suspect in the 300 block of N Street, SW.  Arrested was 36-year old Christopher Lee Tyler of Northeast, Washington, DC. Subsequent investigation led to Mr. Tyler being charged with Armed Robbery in the additional cases. The investigation is continuing.
