Message from the Chief

Cathy L. Lanier, Chief of Police

Right now is a great time to be MPD. And now is a great time for you to learn about an exciting career in law enforcement with the Metropolitan Police Department.

I joined the force more than 20 years ago as a recruit and have enjoyed patrolling our Nation’s Capital, getting to know residents and working with communities. For DC to be the best, safest city it can be, the MPD needs the best, brightest, most highly trained and motivated police force in the country — a police force that is as committed as I am to creating safe and strong neighborhoods.

What does it take to be a member of this team? It takes people with integrity, discipline and drive. It takes people who enjoy working with others — in all types of settings and circumstances. It takes people who are true problem-solvers, people who really want to make a difference in the lives of others.

MPD offers a great starting salary and benefits and has opportunities for advancement through our competitive promotional process. If you choose the Metropolitan Police Department, you will learn hands-on from some of the best public safety professionals in the country and get a chance to make a difference.

Apply today to be an MPD officer and join the ranks of the finest police department in the nation.
