Commander Richard Southby

Right now is a great time to be a member of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Reserve Corps. The Reserve Corps Division is making significant contributions to the Department through volunteer police services. Over 90 talented men and women are currently serving as reserve police officers. We are seeking to expand and are actively recruiting new members. I invite you to explore the opportunities offered by the Reserve Corps Division and consider applying. I initially joined the Reserve Corps in 1989 and have held various positions over my tenure prior to my appointment as Commanding Officer of the Reserve Corps Division in 2008 by Chief Cathy Lanier.

The Reserve Corps Division has come a long way. We continue to make progress in improving the services we provide to the department.  In addition to all of our existing functions, in the spring of 2010 we launched a new initiative called the Reserve Corps Focus Initiative (RCFI). This initiative would shortly become our ‘signature activity’ and has demonstrated significant contributions to law enforcement and crime prevention through the District of Columbia. Over the last two years, the Reserve Corps has graduated 25 new members and is currently seeking applicants to fill a Spring 2015 recruit class.  Interested applicants are encouraged to apply.
