Professional Development Bureau - Metropolitan Police Academy
Introduction: The Metropolitan Police Academy (MPA) is responsible for training recruits to be police officers as well as conducts ongoing training for current sworn members.
Location: 4665 Blue Plains Drive SW, Washington, DC 20032
Schedule: The office is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 A.M. through 4:00 P.M.

Number of Intern Positions: One
Program Description: The major responsibilities of the intern are subject to change depending on the current workload and tasks of MPA. Interns will receive access to the inner workings of the police academy and the police department. Interns will be a part of substantive and important projects, working toward the goal of professionalizing training at the MPA. Interns will attend meetings held at the MPA, including executive staff meetings and Recruit Officer Leadership Council meetings. Interns will also participate in tours provided to officials and citizens at the MPA. Furthermore, interns will be exposed to police fieldwork on periodic field redeployments of the MPA. Interns will have the opportunity to attend various high-level meetings at Police Headquarters on a number of training issues, including personnel, finances, and legal review of training.
The volunteer would be assigned to the lobby area of the academy to greet visitors, answer telephone, direct visitors/members to proper classroom.
Applicants are strongly urged to have their own mode of transportation, even though the Academy is accessible by Metrobus and Metrorail.
