Police Academy Physical Training Program
The Recruit Officer Physical Training (PT) Program consists of a variety of activities. Each recruit officer will be given three physical training examinations. Examination standards are based on The Cooper Institute Standards for Law Enforcement and are adjusted based on the age and gender of the recruit. The PT examination will consist of four events which include: a 1.5 mile run, 300 meter sprint, a push up event, and a sit up event. Each recruit officer must successfully pass each event. Please view the recruit officer standard for each event. Some examples of PT activities are:
Cardio Vascular Training:
- Distance running
- Sprinting
- Swimming
- Stair climbing
- Cycling
Resistance training:
- Circuit training
- Weight training
- Medicine ball training
- Sit-ups
- Push-ups
- Pull-ups
- Rope climbing
- Squats
- Lunges
