The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) hosts frequent new candidate orientations for applicants interested in applying for entry-level police officer positions. Orientations are held both in-person and online. Web-based orientations are only for individuals who live more than 2 hours away (driving time). The new candidate orientation will give you the opportunity to learn more about the Department and will provide you with important information regarding the Department's application and training process. Upon submitting an application to the Department you will receive specific instructions regarding how to RSVP to attend a new candidate orientation. As spaces for each orientation are limited a RSVP is required in order to attend. Web-based orientations are identified as such at the time of reserving a space. Failure to attend a new candidate orientation within sixty (60) days of the date of application will result in your removal from the application process.
In-person new candidate orientations are held at the Metropolitan Police Academy, 4665 Blue Plains Drive SW, Annex Auditorium Building, Washington, DC 20032. Following the orientation a question and answer panel will be held allowing applicants to address any questions that they may have. Applicants should bring photo identification to the orientation; however do not need to bring anything else. Applicants are encouraged to wear business casual attire to the new candidate orientation. The Academy facility is access controlled. An officer will be posted one hour prior to each orientation to allow registered individuals access. Ample parking is available.
- Web-based new candidate orientations are held online. Instructions regarding how to access the web-based new candidate orientations will be sent to all individuals who have RSVP'ed three days prior to the orientation. Individuals choosing the web-based orientation must have a working computer, high-speed internet connection, and access to a telephone line for the audio portion of the orientation.
