Internal Affairs Bureau - Internal Affairs Division
Introduction: Internal Affairs Division is comprised of the Police Misconduct Section, the OPC Liaison Unit, and the Civil Rights and Force Investigation Section. The Police Misconduct Section investigates most complaints by citizens against police officers and other MPDC members. The OPC Liaison Unit coordinates the investigation of those citizens' complaints filed with the Office of Police Complaints. The Civil Rights and Force Investigation Section investigates lethal and serious non-lethal uses of police force.

Schedule: The office is open Monday through Friday; 8:00 A.M. through 4:00 P.M.

Program Description: The associated duties of the intern will include working within the Operations Section of the Internal Affairs Division to review and categorize chain of command misconduct and use of force investigations. In addition, the intern will specifically research past years cases for instances related to excessive force allegations. This will include reviewing written reports to research any included allegation of excessive force in the investigation, and ensuring that the findings of each investigation is correctly reflected in the Personnel Performance Maintenance System. The intern will evaluate the historical excessive force data in comparison to recent information and determine current trends.
