Capital Hotels Award Metropolitan Police Service, or CHAMPS, is an incentive award program sponsored by the Hotel Association of Washington, DC in appreciation and support of the Metropolitan Police Department's service to the community.
The CHAMPS awardees are patrol officers from the various police districts and the Special Operations Division. Nominations are made by commanders of the districts and SOD, who send written reports to the Awards Coordinator by the 15th of every month. The program is designed to recognize District of Columbia police officers who have performed a special community service or demonstrated superior conduct.
The Hotel Association provides a complimentary luncheon meeting each month for the awardees and the Chief of Police. This meeting provides a unique opportunity for street officers to share experience and expertise directly with the Chief, and for the Chief to hear new ideas from the front line.
