Cadet Program: Application Process

The application process is detailed below. Applicants must complete the items below in the following sequence:The Cadet Training Program background investigation process can take three to four months to complete.  Applicants must complete the items below in the following sequence:

  1. Fill out an initial job application online
  2. Upon completion of the initial application all applicants will receive an invitation to an upcoming orientation date within five to ten business days
  3. Attend a mandatory orientation
  4. Undergo a panel interview
  5. Have permission from your parents or guardian to enter the Cadet Program if you are under the age of 18 
  6. Background investigation (criminal checks, references, employment, social media checks, etc.)
  7. Polygraph examination
  8. Pass a medical examination, including a drug-screening test. Must possess at least 20/100 vision, correctable to 20/30 in both eyes (contacts are permitted, but must be worn for six (6) months or Lasik-type surgery at least six (6) weeks prior to examination). Also must be of proportionate height and weight as measured by percentage of body fat
  9. Pass a psychological examination
  10. Pass an entrance examination by the University of the District of Columbia Community College in English and Math
  11. Review and approval
