Cadet Education & Training
In the Police Cadet Training Program, cadets will:
- Complete up to sixty college credits at the University of the District of Columbia in order to satisfy the Metropolitan Police Department's police recruit entrance requirements
- Spend part of their time working specific job assignments to support the day-to-day operations of the Metropolitan Police Department
- Perform rotating assignments among the districts and divisions of the Department
- Gain familiarization with the daily operations of the Department
Benefits
- Cadets shall be full-time students at UDC andare full-time civilian employees with MPD at starting salary of $25,315 - $33,055 per annum
- Uniforms and equipment are furnished at no cost to the cadet, except for belts and shoes
- Cadets convert to career police status upon completion of up to sixty college credits and acceptance into the Recruit Officer Training Program phase
- MPD pays for tuition for the University of the District of Columbia college coursework
- Cadets receive all DC Government paid holidays per year
- Cadets earn annual and sick leave
- Cadets receive comprehensive health care
Cadets earn excellent retirement benefits with time served accruing as DC Government Service, calculated upon completion of 25 years in a police career, with the Metropolitan Police Department.
