Police Officer Selection Process

New Candidate Orientation

The police officer background investigation process can take approximately six months. Applicants must complete two things in any order before moving forward in the selection process:

  1. Attend an in-person or web-based orientation session.
  2. Pass the written multiple-choice test.
    Visit: to apply and select testing location.

Next Steps

  1. [eSoph] Complete Personal History Statement to begin the background investigation process (criminal checks, references, employment, social media checks, etc.)
  2. Once you have passed the written multiple-choice test, attended an orientation, and completed your Personal History Statement (through eSOPH) you will be invited to attend an applicant mass processing day during which you will take part in the following events:
  3. Take a polygraph examination
  4. Submit to a medical and psychological evaluation
  5. MPD review and approval
