| Camp Brown // Age Group: 7-13 years |

A partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington will make Camp Ernest W. Brown an exciting place for campers ages 6-13. Camp Brown, named after former police chief and co-founder, Ernest W. Brown is operated through a partnership agreement between the Metropolitan Police Department and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington. This year, one-week camp sessions will be held beginning in July through August.
Camp Brown is located about 80 miles south of Washington, DC in Scotland, Maryland. For 73 years, Camp Brown has been a place for school-aged youth between the ages of 6 and 13 to escape the busy city for a week-long vacation. Campers stay in wooden cabins on 168 acres of land, alongside the Potomac River where they enjoy swimming, biking, fishing, listening to motivational speakers, and many other structured activities. Camp counselors include police officers who are trained to work with youth, as well as certified staff of the Boys and Girls Club.

| “Beat the Streets” // Age Group: All Ages |
 The “Beat the Streets” event focuses on visits to neighborhoods around the District of Columbia in a community outreach effort, which brings people of all ages in the neighborhoods together in harmony. The community festival includes performances from DC Public Schools’ marching bands and police bands. In addition, it provides a chance to connect with social service providers. Light refreshments are served.

| Teen STARS Summer Job Program // Age Group: 14–17 |
 In an effort to work with school-aged teens during the summer months, MPD established the Teen STARS Summer Camp Job Program. The STARS program is an intensive prevention and intervention work experience designed to provide youth with violence prevention awareness, social services, job training skills, community service, mentoring, cultural diversity awareness, and positive social activities. Students will also participate in field trips.
Note: Students in the Teen STARS Summer Job Program must be registered for the DC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) before the deadline in order to receive bi-weekly stipends. When completing the SYEP application, students must select Metropolitan Police Department for job placement.

| Jr. Police Academy Summer Job Program // Age Group: 14–18 years |

This ten-week summer program is for students who are curious about law, politics, the court system, government or law enforcement to gain an insider's perspective of the criminal justice system and the internal operations of the Metropolitan Police Department. The Jr. Police Academy offers students an opportunity to compare what they see on TV shows like "CSI" and "Law & Order" to MPD and the District of Columbia Government.
Students will:
- Meet homicide detectives, investigators, police commanders, etc.
- Visit the Forensic Science Services Division at MPD.
- Visit the Crime & Punishment Museum.
- Participate in round-table motivational discussions.
- Visit the courthouse and interact with local judges.
- Meet members from the US Attorney's Office and Office of the Attorney General.
- Hear from lawyers about DC law and legal cases in the District and much more.
Note: Students in this program must be registered for the DC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) before the deadline in order to receive bi-weekly stipends. They will be able to work for up to 20 hours a week and are subject to background checks. When completing the SYEP application, students must select Metropolitan Police Department for job placement. Registration is recommended by the end of March.

| Friday Night Safe Haven for Teens // Age Group: 13–18 years |
 For many teens, the summer months are a time to spend hanging out with friends, but late evening hours can also be peak time for juvenile mischief. Officers of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) realize this and have partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Washington to offer Friday Night Safe Haven for Teens at the clubhouses listed below:

The initiative will be made available for teens, ages 13 and above needing a supervised social environment on Friday nights from 6:00 pm till 11:30 pm, during the out-of-school months, between June and August.
