Summer for youth and young adults is a time to work summer jobs, take trips, and enjoy spending time with friends and family. Oftentimes, when youth are unsupervised, summer can be a dangerous time. This year, the Metropolitan Police Department would like to encourage every parent who will be unable to supervise their children throughout the day and the night to find structured activities in which they can enroll their little loved ones to ensure an extra level of safety for them. Please call around to various camps to find the right one for your family’s budget.
Summer Jobs
The Metropolitan Police Department is committed to working with the city's teens to prepare them for a successful career in whatever field they choose. During the summer of 2009, MPD will hire a record number of youth through our partnership with the Department of Employment Services. For more information, contact the Department of Employment Services’ 2009 Summer Youth Programs.
Summer CampsThe Metropolitan Police Department will support the Department of Parks and Recreation’s summer camps by visiting them and offering safety presentations. To register your child for summer camp, contact the Department of Parks and Recreation as quickly as possible.
One Week Overnight Getaway: Camp Brown
The Metropolitan Police Department will partner with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington to send youth to a one-week overnight camp getaway in Scotland Maryland, beginning in June and running through August.
Summer Hotline
The Metropolitan Police Department will operate a summer hotline to help parents find summer options for their loved ones. If your child or teen is bored this summer, feel free to dial our hotline at
