Sec. 9. Verification functions of the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency
(a) The Agency shall have the authority to adopt and implement procedures and requirements for verification of address information and other information required for registration under this act. The procedures and requirements may include, but need not be limited to, requirements that the sex offender:
- New § 24-1128Verify address information or other information at least annually, or at more frequent intervals as specified by the Agency;
- Return address verification forms;
- Appear in person for purposes of verification;
- Cooperate in the taking of fingerprints and photographs, as part of the verification process; and
- Update any information that has changed since any preceding registration or verification as part of the verification process.
(b) The Agency shall have the authority to immediately notify the Metropolitan Police Department if the Agency is unable to verify the address of or locate a sex offender who is required to register under this act or if the sex offender otherwise fails to comply with any requirements of this act.
In accordance with enactment of the Sex Offender Registration Act of 1999, this information is being provided to the community. Unlawful use of this information to threaten, intimidate, harass, or injure a registered sex offender is prohibited and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Funding for this program was provided through a grant from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, Office of Justice Programs, US Department of Justice.
