Third District George Kucik, Commander
George Kucik assumed command of the Third District in April 2008, when Chief Cathy L. Lanier promoted him to Acting Commander. As an inspector, Kucik commanded the First District Substation from October 2007 until his promotion to Commander of the Third District.
Upon completion of the Police Academy, Captain Kucik was assigned to the Fifth District where he was a patrol officer for three years. He was then selected for an assignment in the First District’s Vice Unit, where he remained until getting promoted to sergeant in 1993. He spent six years working as a Detective Sergeant in the Fifth District Detective Unit and the Homicide Branch. Upon promotion to lieutenant in 2000, he was assigned to the Fourth District and was shortly thereafter put in charge of the Fourth District’s Detective Unit. In 2002, he was sent to the Forensic Science Division, where he remained until his promotion to Captain in 2006. As a Captain, he worked in both the Third and Seventh Districts, as well as the Narcotics and Special Investigations Division. In September of 2007, he was promoted to Inspector and assigned to the First District Sub-Station.
Commander Kucik was instrumental in drafting the department’s first Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for homicide investigations, still used by members of the Department today. While assigned to the Forensic Science Division, he oversaw the centralization of crime scene technicians and updated their SOP to be in line with current technology and best practices.
Commander George Kucik is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and holds a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. |
