The Metropolitan Police Department has an important resource for Latino residents in the District of Columbia: the Latino Liaison Unit.
Services The Latino Liaison Unit was created to help meet the public safety needs of the Latino community and to increase the trust and communication that exists between Latino community and MPDC.
In addition to providing city wide high visibility uniformed patrol, and crime prevention, the Latino Liaison Unit:

Assists all MPD patrol and support units, as well as the US Attorneys Office and the DC Attorney General’s Office with criminal investigations, victim and witness assistance and follow-up.

Conducts home visits, business visit’s, school visits, public safety forums, lectures, and training to the Latino community to inform them of the services provided by MPD and the LLU.

Interpretation and translation assistance to MPD, local law enforcement agencies and community members.

Serve as representatives for MPDC at community events, civic meetings, government functions, and other related events.

Serve on the US Attorney’s office Human Trafficking Task Force, Hate/Bias Crimes Task Force, Gang Intervention Partnership Unit, Ward 1 Youth Court, and the Latino advisory council.

Maintains a close relationship with numerous government, non-government, and non-profit organizations to provide training, accurate information on how to obtain police services and to dispel misinformation and police myths held by the community about MPD and police in general.

Are weekly guests at the Metropolitan area’s 3 largest Latino FM and AM radio stations.

Provide interviews to mainstream and Latino media sources when authorized by the PIO.

Conduct outreach, citywide, to the Latino community.
