Executive Assistant Chief Michael J. Fitzgerald
Executive Assistant Chief Fitzgerald joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 1971, serving as a patrol officer in the Fourth District for six years and later as a squad sergeant in the Fifth District. He was promoted to lieutenant in 1982 and captain in 1985, with leadership assignments in the Sixth District, the Narcotics and Special Investigations Divisions, and as director of the Court Liaison Division.
In August 1995, he was promoted to Inspector and returned to the Fourth District as Commander of the district, the city's most populous. In January 1997, he was promoted to Assistant Chief in charge of the former Support Services Bureau, with oversight of the Technical Services Bureau as well. In September 1998, he was promoted again, to the newly created position of Regional Assistant Chief in charge of Regional Operations Command-East.In that capacity, he oversaw the development of a number of innovative crime-fighting and community-partnership strategies in the Sixth and Seventh Police districts.
On June 3, 2002, Chief of Police Charles H. Ramsey promoted Fitzgerald to Executive Assistant Chief, the second in command of the Department overseeing departmental operations.
Michael J. Fitzgerald retired from the Metropolitan Police Department in 2007. |
