What is the starting salary for police officers in the MPDC?
The starting salary for police officers is $48,716 a year. After 18 months of service, most police officers can expect to earn a base salary of approximately $53,299 a year. Lateral officers' starting salaries range from $51,151 to a maximum of $71,971, depending on their previous experience.

Is there any differential pay for working evening or nights?
Officers who work the evening tour of duty receive a 3 percent pay differential. Officers who work the midnight shift receive a 4 percent differential.

Will I start at full salary the day I enter the training academy?
Recruits begin earning their full salary upon entering the academy.

Is there any additional pay for foreign language skills?
Yes. Officers (as well as civilian employees) who are certified as fluent in any language other than English, as well as American Sign Language, receive a $50 stipend per pay period. That is the equivalent of an extra $1,300 a year. To qualify for the stipend, members must pass a certification test administered by the US Department of State.
